On October 19th we’ll celebrate National Farm to School Month by crunching into a locally grown apple — with a statewide Apple Crunch event! Classrooms and cafeterias, school groups, families, and anyone can participate by registering to get an Apple Crunch Celebration Guide with ideas on how to source local apples, incorporate farm to school education, and promote your activities.
There are Four Simple Ways to Participate:
- to participate during lunch in the cafeteria, or as a classroom, school, before/after school program, or entire district
- Receive and review your RI Apple Crunch Celebration Guide for ideas on how to assemble a planning team, source local apples, incorporate farm to school education, and promote your activities.
- CRUNCH with us on October 19!
- Share your “crunch fun” (video & photos) on social media with #RIAppleCrunch to be eligible to win prizes!
As a proud partner in the RI Farm to School Network, we are helping to raise awareness for RI Farm to School and the importance of a local food system. Farm to School supports access to local food, creates opportunities for education and health promotion, builds relationships between schools and local farms, and benefits the local economy and environment. Kids win, farmers win, and communities win!
