Our Nutrition Education manager, Mikayla Anthes, recently got to spend three days with the Mount Pleasant Farm to School team at the beautiful Shelburne Farms in Shelburne, VT, to kick off the annual Northeast Farm to School Institute.
The Institute is a unique year-long professional learning opportunity for schools across New England and New York. The Institute brings together teachers, administrators, school nutrition professionals, school nurses, parents, community members, and others during an intensive three-day retreat.
With a mixture of workshops and team work time, each team creates a farm to school action plan to bring back to their school to implement the following school year. Mount Pleasant High School in Providence was the only Rhode Island team in attendance this year — and this team left the Institute with a comprehensive action plan to deepen and expand its farm to school programming through curriculum integration, collaboration with school food service, and an intentional awareness and outreach campaign.
